At Groundfloor Lending, we know that strong lending operations are the backbone of our platform. Every loan we originate is backed by real property, underwritten with care, and monitored for performance. This careful approach ensures our community of real estate entrepreneurs and investors can grow with confidence.
That's why we're excited to welcome Andrew Hurd as our new Vice President of Risk & Servicing.
A Leader in Real Estate Lending
Andrew brings more than 15 years of experience in commercial lending, private banking, and business-purpose real estate finance. His career began in Charlotte's banking sector, where he worked in credit roles with high-net-worth clients, designing custom financing solutions for everything from luxury homes to unique asset classes.
More than a decade ago, Andrew transitioned to focus exclusively on real estate. At B2R Finance (later Finance of America Commercial), he helped develop and institutionalize products that have since become industry standards, including DSCR rental loans and residential transition loans (RTL).
His work has spanned credit strategy, securitizations, portfolio management, and product innovation, always with an eye on balancing opportunity with prudent risk management.
Hands-On Market Insight
Andrew's experience goes beyond lending. He's also a licensed real estate agent and an active investor. Over the years, he has built his own home from the ground up, flipped multiple properties, acquired and renovated foreclosures, and managed rental portfolios.
This firsthand experience on the borrower side gives Andrew a deep understanding of what it takes to structure deals that work in the real world.
How He'll Impact Groundfloor Lending
As VP of Risk & Servicing, Andrew will oversee several key areas:
- Credit strategy & underwriting, ensuring every loan meets Groundfloor Lending's rigorous standards.
- Servicing & asset management, which involves monitoring projects and proactively addressing challenges.
- Construction management oversight, supporting successful, on-time completions.
He will also focus on data & reporting, building insights that drive better decisions and create more transparency for investors. Perhaps most importantly, he'll innovate by building and launching products and services that fit the needs of the market.
His role connects every step of the lending process, from application to final repayment, creating a seamless, customer-focused experience for both borrowers and investors.
Why He Joined Groundfloor Lending
For Andrew, Groundfloor Lending's mission to help everyone bring their real estate vision to life was a major draw.
"I've worked in traditional lending where deals can take months and require mountains of paperwork," he says.
"At Groundfloor Lending, we're empowering real estate entrepreneurs by providing fast, flexible financing that lets them focus on their projects instead of bureaucracy. Whether someone is flipping their first house or expanding a rental portfolio, we're here to make their vision possible."
Looking Ahead
With Andrew's leadership, Groundfloor Lending is poised to strengthen its lending operations, refine its risk management, and introduce new products that help real estate entrepreneurs succeed while delivering attractive, secured investments to our retail investors.
Welcome, Andrew. We're excited for what's ahead.
